The Chaplaincy Team met to discuss their main project for this year: designing, building and promoting the use of a new school prayer garden.
Mrs Beer showed the chaplains a garden designed by Sarah Eberle and displayed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. It is based around Psalm 23. Mrs Beer challenged the chaplains to create a garden based around Psalm 23 for the school grounds.
First of all, the chaplains discussed the different elements of the garden and how it relates to Psalm 23.
- ‘He makes me lie down in green pastures’ – part of the garden must contain meadowland
- ‘He leads me beside still waters’ – part of the garden must contain water
- ‘Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil’ – created through the use of stepping stones
- ‘You prepare a table before me’ – somewhere to sit
To begin with, the chaplains went for a walk around the school grounds and decided on where they wanted the garden to go.
They decided on a quiet corner where there was a tree for a focal point and a wall where they wanted to put a prayer garden sign and the words of Psalm 23.
The chaplains then went back inside and, after creating a shopping list for Mrs Beer to buy items for the garden, they set about drawing their ideas of how the garden could look.

The next step is for the chaplains to present their ideas for the prayer garden to the rest of the school.
