We began our Act of Worship by singing “My Shepherd”. The lyrics of this song tell us that when we become lost, we can look to Jesus to put us back onto the right path by forgiving us and show us the way.
We then heard from the Gospel of Luke, the parable of the Prodigal Son.

We heard how the father forgave the wasteful son and, instead, celebrated his return.
Your mission this week is therefore to show forgiveness to others. We spoke about when our friends annoy us or say things that upset us. Instead of being cross with them, we must forgive them and move on, just as the Father did in the parable of the Prodigal Son.
Let us know in the comments below how you achieve this week’s mission.

In Year 1, we talked about forgiveness and how it links to the start of lent. We discussed how the start of lent gives us the opportunity to reflect on God’s forgiveness of our sins. We all attended Mass on Ash Wednesday and when we came forward to receive the ashes on Ash Wednesday, it gave us all an opportunity to say sorry to God for all the sins we have committed and to ask for forgiveness. In our class liturgy, we talked about how we can forgive others just like Jesus did and say sorry when our friends hurt us.
In Year 6 we reflected on the parable of the Prodigal Son and spoke about how we must be forgiving like the father and also show how sorry we are when we’ve done something wrong like the son. We have shown forgiveness in our own lives by making up with our friends when we fall out, helping others to reconcile after arguments and making an effort to be forgiving to our siblings. We have also tried our best to admit when we have done wrong and ask others, and God, for forgiveness.
In Year 2, we discussed why we focus on forgiveness during Lent and how we can, not only forgive others, but also work on forgiving ourselves. We looked at different ways we can show forgiveness, such as letting go of grudges, playing with old friends and helping others who have quarreled. We also highlighted that if God can forgive everyone, then so should we.
In year 5, we spoke about what it means to forgive someone and also why this might feel like a challenge. We discussed if we knew any stories about forgiveness and found that The Prodigal Son was a prime example of forgiving. We spoke about how the father chose love and show compassion for his son over not forgiving him and letting his son deal with the consequences of his actions. In our own lives, we said that we need to get better at forgiving each other in year 5. When we have disagreements, we need to remember that we all make mistakes but to move forward in unity we must look past these mistakes like God looks past ours.
In Year 4 we have been discussing what forgiveness looks like in our class. We have talked about accepting apologies and when someone does something by accident that we acknowledge they did mean to hurt or upset us. We discussed forgiving those who harm others is hard and how we need to think of those in the Ukraine and those that live in Russia who do not want to be a part of what is happening. We recognised that God forgives all sins that are given up to him and we should try to follow his example.
In Year 3 the children have been discussing why it is important to show forgiveness and they were able to talk about times in the bible when Jesus forgave others eg. Zacchaeus, the prodigal son etc. They agreed that they would make a conscious effort during Lent to listen to others when they’ve upset them and they want to say sorry and show them that we forgive what they have done/said to make us upset.
