This week’s word is ‘Youth’. We talked about how this refers to children and how they can make a difference no matter how young they are.

We talked about these three inspiring young people who made their name in medicine, the environment and human rights.

We heard this quote from the Bible:

We talked about the different ways in which the children at St Clare’s could make a difference to the world around them:

  • showing kindness
  • smiling and spreading joy
  • picking up litter and recycling
  • helping others

Let us know how you get on with this week’s mission in the comments below.

In Year 2 this week, we talked about what the word ‘Youth’ meant and considered what we could do to make a difference in our world. We said that young people are very important as they are the future generation who can change the world for the better! Each child thought of something that they might choose to do to make a difference to someone’s life at home. The children made links to the idea of giving from last week.

EYFS decided that they would hold the door open for others to make them smile, give food and toys to the poor and give a hug or a smile to someone if they needed it.

This week Year 5 have tried to spread joy in our classroom. We have tried to smile as often as we could and helped each other at every opportunity.

We talked about different ways we could make a difference. We said that we could donate money, items and time to those in need. We could also pick up litter and cheer someone up if they are feeling sad and lonely.

In Year 4 we have talked about how young people can make a difference in our world. We said we could show kindness to those around us and those in need through our actions like giving to charity, smiling at someone, sharing what we have and showing others how to behave. We also said that we could help our parents understand the importance of looking after our world and recycling what we can and making good choices in what we buy.

In Year One we talked about how we can all make a difference and make the world a better place. We talked about how important small acts of kindness are. Sharing things in the classroom, helping each other and saying kind words were a few of our ideas. We are always trying to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

The theme this week linked with our Youth Fun Day theme of ‘rise up’ as we spoke about the ways young people can have an impact on the world. We then spoke about the small things we could do that have a big impact such as recycling at home, asking parents to donate old toys and clothes to charity and by being supportive of all those around us. We agreed that power of young people is stronger when they stand together against an issue and so thought about ways we could unite to make a difference in our own homes, schools and community. With a focus on being good stewards of creation, we all agreed to try and be more eco-friendly at home and in school. This is not just by recycling but also by turning lights off, not running water for so long and litter picking.
