On the 6th of January we celebrated the feast of the Epiphany – when the Wise Men from the east brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the baby Jesus.
For us it’s an opportunity to think about the gifts we’ve been given and how we use them to serve God. It’s also a chance to give thanks for all those who give so much to us every day.Ā
This weekās mission is therefore: to use our special gifts to serve God.Ā
Some examples of what you could do: if you are good at maths, you could help your peers in class; if you are a good listener, you could listen to friends when they are upset; if you are a peacemaker, you could help people to settle their arguments.

Year 3 thought about the different gifts we have. We thought about about the different qualities we have – caring etc… An example given in the class was if someone was hurt then to make sure they were ok and to cheer them up. We also discussed how being good at something is a gift, for example being good at a particular subject in school. The children then thought of how we could use this gift and they told me that they could help others if they were stuck.
In EYFS this week, the children have been thinking about ways that they can live out this week’s mission, by listening to others when they feel sad or lonely. They talked about if they were good at a particular subject or skill and how they could share this with others so that they too could become as confident in that area. (Eg maths, football) They also spoke about how they could show their caring and patient side by helping friends talk through their arguments and help them to become friends again.
Year 6 discussed how we can help each other by helping those who struggle with the subjects we find easier. We felt this was especially important for us as we move closer to SATS, we should be encouraging and helping each other as much as possible in order to exceed together.
In year 4 we discussed all of the wonderful gifts that we have been blessed with, some of us are good at art some at science some at music. What we did recognise as a whole class is that some of us are better at some things than others, however year 4 are prepared to help others who may struggle sometimes and have decided to look out for people in need of help and offer support so that each and everyone of us becomes a shining star.
In Year 2,
Year 2 thought about how the three kings took gifts to Baby Jesus. God has given us all special gifts so we talked about the things that we were good at and how we could share these gifts to help others in our lives. We thanked God for our different gifts and considered how we could work together in our class to serve God.
In Year 5 this week we have been discussing ways that we can use our special gifts to serve God. The children thought that they could serve others like God has served them. They want to show their gift of love by caring for others by giving them a hug, listening to them if they need someone to talk to or simply encouragement if they on’t believe they can do something. They also spoke about helping those in need by providing clothes or shelter.
In Year One we talked about how everyone has special gifts. These gifts can be that you are really good at maths or reading or that you are a very kind, thoughtful person who is always a good friend. We talked about how we can use our special gifts to try to be like Jesus and help and support those around us.
