Daniel guided our reflection on fasting. He gave a great explanation about the history of fasting and explained how in current society Christians aim to fast from negatives. Daniel will aim to fast from screens this week. What ‘negatives’ will the members of the Sacred Heart community fast from?

    Year 4
Lucy – fasting reminds me of Jesus in the desert. It teaches me that it Jesus made a lot of effort not to be tempted.
Grace is fasting to experience temptation and to test her strength in her faith.
Evalina is fasting to bring her closer to God and to have a better relationship with Him.

Year 5 shared their different ideas. Some were fasting from food such as chocolate or crisps, both of which were hard to do, because sometimes we really wanted them! Other people were fasting from technology, with examples of ipad, tablet and X-box. Sometimes this was to have a shorter time limit, for others, to not play a second time. Some children decided to use the time not playing with technology to do something for someone else.

Last week we thought about the theme of ‘Fasting’ and how giving something up can be really tricky. In year 4 some had to resist temptation through saying no to lollipops, stopping ourselves from getting upset with our brothers and sisters, spending less time on the I pad. We also had to remember not to tempt others with things they might have given up like chocolate and sweets etc.

It gave us the opportunity when people gave us things that we love, to give them away to others who could benefit from them.

In Year 6 a number of children have shared how they have met this week’s fasting mission.
Thomas, Joseph, Daniel, Emily and Billy have spent less time on their screens. They have used this time in different ways: to draw, spend more time with their families, train more for their football, work on their homework.
Emily is fasting from sweets and crisps.
Dennis is using his screentime to go on BBC Bitesize rather than gaming.
Anonymous children were fasting from annoying their siblings!
Mylo was not asking his parents for as many things.
