This week, Year 1 led the whole school in a liturgical prayer about the importance of prayer. We gathered together by entering the hall in silence with our hand together in prayer. On the prayer focus, they had put photos of themeselves praying in different places, a candle and a cross to remind us who we are praying to and a purple cloth because we are in the season of Lent.
They chose the hymn ‘Be Still of the Presence of the Lord’ to help us remember that, when we pray, we should only be thinking about God and trying not to get distracted by other things.
The children chose the scripture Matthew 6:5, which is all about going to a quiet room to pray so that only you and God know that you are praying. It also tells us that God knows what is in our hearts and will give us everything that we need.
Our response to the scripture was to sit in silence and talk to God, just like Jesus told us to in the scripture. As our mission, Year 1 asked us to find somewhere to pray quietly at home.
