Mission: to improve your knowledge of God by reading a part of the Bible

This week’s word is knowledge. We talked about all the different types of knowledge there are: knowledge from experiences; knowledge we are taught in school; knowledge from our parents and knowledge from God.

We heard this scripture:

This tells us that to know the Lord, is to honour him. We should learn about His ways, through the Bible, in order to praise Him.

Your mission this week, therefore, is to learn more about God by reading a part of the Bible you haven’t read before.

Let us know in the comments below how you get on.

In Year 4 we read Colossian’s 3: 12-15. We talked about how God wanted to live out forgiveness in our lives. How we need to forgive others and accept forgiveness when we have sinned. We discussed how Jesus sacrificed his life that we might have a second chance and that we should give second chances to others and accept when they are sorry.

As part of our R.E topic, we have been exploring ways to love our world. One of the ways we have discussed, was sharing with others that are less fortunate than ourselves. We had a look at 2 Corinthians 9:6-8. The Cheerful Giver, as we felt that linked in well with our topic and it was scripture that we’ve never read before which the children loved.

Year 3 read a passage from the bible that we had not read before. It was from Thessalonians 5: 12-18

    Dear Friends,

Help everyone who works hard for you. Love and respect them for what they do.

We discussed this passage and what it meant to us. The children responded with ideas such as – we can help others who are in sad on the playground and invite them to play with us , we also discussed respecting other children and teachers by listening to them.

Year 2 discussed how we thought reading any part of the Bible would bring us closer to God and by doing so would also improve our knowledge. Penny said “Even though I cannot read very well I love listening to the stories of the Bible because the kind words in the stories make me feel safe and I know that God will help me to get better at reading”.
Matilda said “Every time we perform a class liturgy I know that my knowledge has improved because I go and spread the good word of God to my family”.
In our reading for pleasure time this week many of the children in Year 2 have decided to read more Bible stories.
