This week’s word is ‘diversity’. The children knew that this was about us all being different.
We heard this scripture:
We talked about how we should celebrate our differences, but sometimes, because of these differences, people can feel left out. For example, you might not like the same TV programme as other children and feel left out when everyone else is talking about it.
The children knew that we should treat everyone the same no matter how different they are and that it would be a very boring world if we were all the same!
This week’s mission is to make sure that everyone feels included. You have been asked to find a small piece of paper and to draw a smiley face on it. When you see someone who might be feeling left out, give the smiley face to them to make sure they know they are loved and included.

Year 2 started the day drawing their smiley faces and thinking about what they were looking for in person that may need one. Junior gave his to Jonathan as he thought he looked a bit fed up. Jonathan gave his to Junior as he knew Junior is having trouble coming into school. Giovanna gave hers to someone at playtime in Year 1 who had fallen over and was upset. Frankie said he was going to give his to his mum as she has hurt her foot and can’t get around easily at the moment.
Year 4 made their smiley faces and handed them out throughout the week. Here are some of the reasons they gave them.
-I gave mine just because Lottie was a great friend.
-I saw that Ini needed someone to play with so I gave her a smiley face.
-Clark was feeling poorly so I gave him a smiley face to cheer him up
-I gave mine to a Year 6, I don’t know their name but they looked lonely
-I gave mine to my mum
-I gave mine to a teacher, she might be grown up but she still needed a smile
In Year 6 this week we celebrated our individuality and diversity by sharing smiles with our friends. We did this in person and by swapping smiley faces on paper. We especially enjoyed seeing the reaction people had to our faces and the fact they cheered people up!
For this weeks mission year 3 drew a smiley face on a piece of paper and shared it with a child of their choice to help them feel included. Students such as Nathan shared with the class that he shared his smiley face with Jayden. In that moment, when Nathan shared a smile with Jayden , they didn’t just share a picture they shared an understanding that everyone belong.
