In today’s assembly, we talked about the importance of peace. Mrs Beer discussed what it means to be peaceful and how it helps us live out a fruitful life.
We heard this reading:
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
Glory to You, O Lord.
Jesus said,
“Peace I give to you .
My own peace I leave with you .
A peace which no-one else can offer,
This is my gift to you.
Don’t ever let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
My gift to you is my peace.”
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
We heard how Jesus gave us the gift of peace and how we should never feel worried or scared as God’s peace is always with us.
We spent a few moments relaxing, in silence, listening to our breath going in and out – we felt peaceful.
We can help others to be at peace. The Year 2s had a lot of ideas of how we could do this:
- smile at others
- help others who are hurt
- talk to others about their worries
- play with others so they don’t feel lonely
- suggest sitting quietly together as we did in assembly
- showing others love
This week’s mission is to support others to be peaceful. Let us know in the comments below how you get on.

In year 3 we have thought a lot about peace and how to show it. We have smiled to show how we feel to others and make them feel peaceful and happy too. We have helped each other in the classroom and out side on the playground. We have looked out for those who didn’t have anyone to play with or felt sad and encouraged them to talk and play with us. We have also enjoyed sitting peacefully and listening to God outside in the fresh air during mediation. We have had a very peaceful week.
We came up with many ideas in year 5 to promote peace and what we can do to help others be peaceful. Some children thought of their own experiences of when they promoted peace. These included:
– Telling my friend to be calmer during a game.
– Helping sublings find peace when they get angry by playing another game.
– Apologising to one another to create a peaceful atmosphere when we have had an arguments.
Year 2 have been discussing how we support other people from friends to family members. Some children discussed how they have calmed their parents down while having an argument for various reasons and identified things like kind words, candles and ice-packs have helped to calm situations down. Other children explained how they have spoken calmly and made people apologise to each other for being unkind. Hugs were also a popular choice of ways to support other people when they were upset.
In Year 6 we have been working on feeling peaceful and calm as we approach our assessment. We have used class meditation to help us relax and focus, and Lectio Divina to help us to pray and reflect through scripture in a calm, peaceful way. On the playground, we helped bring peace when people fell out with each other and we tried to be peacemakers at home too by helping out around the house and being kind to each other. Year 6 have also enjoyed using the prayer box this week on the playground to help bring peace to our break times.
Year 1 felt calm and relaxed during our meditation session and we listened to the birds singing outside, which also made us feel peaceful and happy.
In Foundation stage we thought about how we can feel calm and relaxed. We feel calm when we listen to music and when we pray. We feel calm in meditation times and our class liturgy.
We said we need to be kind to each other , smiling and sharing are good ways to keep the classroom a peaceful place.
In Year 4 some children gave their sibling a hug when they had a bad dream. They supported their brothers and sisters when they’ve fallen over or if they’ve been upset. They have created peace at home and in the playground when people have been fighting by getting them to be friends again.
