This week Year 34 led us in a liturgical prayer about Mercy. They explained that mercy is not punishing people even if they deserve it, forgiving people instead of making them feel bad and trying to always be kind to others. God’s mercy is infinite and we need to try be be like Him. He is merciful to us and we must be merciful to others. As we came into the hall, they gave us strips of paper with actions which would help us to care for others and show mercy.
They chose the words of the Prophet Micah to explain how God wants us to be merciful and follow Him. ‘The Lord has told you, oh man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? Only this: to do what is right, to show mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’
Jack explained that the scripture tells us to walk with God without boasting, to be merciful to others as God is merciful and to do what is right. Pola told us that one way we can show mercy is by loving one another and caring about each other, not just about our family and friends.
Our response was to read the strip of paper we were given and silently reflect on how we could achieve it today. Daniel told us to wear our strips of paper round our wrists to help us think about our mission. We sang the song ‘In Christ Alone’ to help us remember that we can do nothing without Jesus, He will help us to be merciful and loving.
They gave us the mission to carry out the action on our paper strips and then tell Year 34 what we did.
