Mission: To give up something we like to show our love for God

As we continue our journey through Lent, this week’s word is ‘fasting’.

We heard how this can mean giving up food and drink as Jesus did in the desert for forty days and forty nights. But it can also mean giving up other things such as watching TV or playing on a games console.

We heard this scripture:

In this passage, we hear how God gave up his only son for us as he loves us so much. In Lent, we can give up something precious to us in order to show our love to God, and that is your mission this week.

Let us know in the comments how you achieve this week’s mission.

In EYFS we decided to give up sweets for Lent. We also promise to be more helpful and kind.

In Year 4 we discussed our mission this week. We thought about what we had given up for Lent and what challenges we were finding. We compared this to how Jesus must have felt. We then remembered Father Gabriel’s Ash Wednesday homily and discussed how not only can we fast during Lent, but use this time to think and reflect and give our time or our support to others

In Year 2 we are giving up some of our time to pray for those in need or caught in conflict around the world.

In Year 5 we spoke about the different things we could give up to show our love to God during Lent. We said we could give up material things like sweets, chocolate, sugary drinks and meat or we could give up some of our time to pray more or to help others.
