This week’s word of the week is ‘understanding’ – one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Here, we are talking about understanding what people are feeling rather than understanding what our teachers are teaching us in lessons.
We heard this scripture:

Jesus showed that he understood how the crowd were feeling. That they had been there for 3 days with no food, so he showed compassion by making sure they had something to eat.
Showing compassion is not just about understanding how someone is feeling, but also doing something about it.
What could we do if we see someone is sad? Lonely? Upset? Hurt?

Your mission this week is to show understanding and compassion to those in our community who are hungry, by donating to our Harvest food collection.
Let us know in the comments what you donate.

In EYFS the children are going to bring in carrots, bananas, beans, oranges, tin cans, pasta, spaghetti, peas, rice pudding to help those who are hungry in our community.
Year 4 discussed all of the items they could bring in for the Harvest food collection. We know to bring in non perishable items such as cans and jars. We could bring:
-pasta
-rice
-beans
-pasta sauce
-curry sauces
-cereal
-cereal bars
We are also taking part in a ‘Harvest Carnival’ live lesson to learn more about where our food comes from and where it is going for the harvest food collection.
Year 2 talked about bringing in tinned food, dried food like pasta and fresh vegetables and fruit for the Harvest contribution.
In Year One we talked about the Harvest festival and the food we can bring in which will help others. We discussed what a food bank is and how it helps people in our local community.
In Year 6 we have already had donations of pasta, tins of tomatoes, cereal bars and soup! We spoke about the types of foods we could bring in that would help those in need in our local community and about the importance of serving others- just like we are taught in our school mission statement.
