EYFS led a liturgy for the whole school about using kind words. They started by singing the song ‘Jesus loves me’ because it makes them feel happy and close to Jesus.
The reading they chose was from the Book of Proverbs because it reminded them how kind words are like honey – they are sweet and make people feel better.
As a response to the reading, the children said kind words to each other and thought about how it felt to say and hear kind words.
TEYFS led us in a beautiful prayer they had written asking God to help us always use kind words so that we can be happy and love one another like God loves us.
Their mission was that everyone needed to think before they said anything because our words have power to make people happy or sad. We need to make sure that we only say kind words to other people so that they will be happy and those happy feelings will spread through the school and out into the world.
The liturgy finished with a song called ‘Each New Day’ which helped us to remember that every day is a new start – we can keep getting closer to Jesus, using kind words and actions to make our world a happier and holier place.
Here are some of the children’s responses to the Liturgy:
‘I loved the song because it helped me remember that, even if I make mistakes and make people sad, I can keep trying to be better’
‘Saying kind words made me happy. I am thinking of kind things I can say to people at lunchtime.’
‘I’m going to try really hard not to say unkind words even if I feel sad and angry.’
‘It made me feel warm and safe but a bit embarrassed when people said kind words to me.’
