This week the Year 34 chaplains have been thinking about preparing for Jesus’ coming at Christmas. They used the symbolism of the candles on the Advent wreath to help them think about how to prepare properly.
Caitlin decided to focus on joy because the pink candle reminded her that Christmas is nearly here and we should rejoice because Jesus is very near. To help spread this joy, the class sang Christmas carols and thought about how joyful they felt while singing.
Jonathan decided to think about spreading peace in our world. The children discussed how to spread peace and decided that the best way to do this was to try not to get angry with each other and try to only use kind words even when they are frustrated or cross.
Alex wanted to spread love at home and at school. He decided to show his love for others by trying to be kind and helpful to everyone. The children all promised they would try to do something to help their mums at home this week.
To show our hope in this time of Advent, we all prayed, thanking God for the gift of Jesus and asking for his help to spread the light of Christ in the dark of winter.
Here is our prayer:
Loving Father,
You sent us your son to love us and save us.
Thank you for loving us and sending us this gift to us.
Help us to spread your love in the world by being unselfish
and sharing the gift of your love with everyone
so that your light will shine through the world this Christmas.
Amen
