This week’s word is ‘Discipleship’.

Being a disciple means following a teacher or a way of life, it’s where we get the word discipline from.

It reminds us that to follow Jesus we have to live like him and shape our lives in a way that reflects who he was and what he taught.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Baptism of Jesus which marked the start of his active ministry. That ministry would go on to change the whole world and just like then, we are called to be disciples of Jesus today.

This week, you are invited to think about what it means to “follow in Jesus’ footsteps”. How can you be like Jesus in your everyday life? What can we do to reflect his teachings?

Let us know in the comments below how you achieved this week’s mission.

In year 5, we discussed what the meaning of ‘living in Jesus’ footsteps’ really means. We said that it means being able to forgive others that we feel have done us wrong- some of us said that forgiving can be a tricky thing to do when your feelings have been hurt. However, we remembered that Jesus still forgave Judas for betryaing him. We also spoke about the scripture ‘Giving Good News to the Poor’ and said that we can live out Jesus’ ways by helping those in need and giving to charities such as CAFOD.

In Year 4 we have discussed what it means to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and to follow when we are called. We are going to try and tell more people about the stories of Jesus and share what we believe like the disciples did. We are going to care for those in our class community, our homes and our church community and serve God as Jesus did. We are also going to try and be more forgiving to our brothers, sisters and friends which we know will be hard but we are going to persevere. We are also going to continue to support those who provide aid and help to Catholic communities in other countries by raising money and giving to CAFOD.

Year 3 were able to give lots of examples from the bible where Jesus inspired others to live a better life. They talked about why he did this and how we too can be role models to others following in Jesus’ footsteps by helping those in need, by listening to others and by showing love to them by the way we treat them.

In Year 2 we discussed how we can be disciples by caring for others when they are ill or feeling like they have no friends. We discussed how making people feel included is very important as Jesus forgave Zacchaeus the tax collector when he cheated people. We discussed how we should follow in Jesus’ footsteps by looking after the environment by not throwing rubbish on the ground.

In Year 1, we talked about how to follow Jesus’ footsteps in our class liturgy. The children came up with great ideas such as showing kindness and praying. We wrote prayers to put in our collective worship books and we prayed to Jesus to give us the grace to live by them.
