This Monday, 17th January, we listened to Tom Shannon talk about this week’s theme of Inspiration. The scripture was Acts 21 of Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus. We, as Eco-Committee leaders challenged our school to stop wasting food and have made a poster with photographs of the food waste each day. We are tracking waste and patterns of waste each day because it so bad it will make climate change even worse, which is bad for the environment. We have noticed that there is a lot of packaging from packed lunches and more food waste on some days compared to others. We will be thinking of ways we can tackle these problems.
On Wednesday, our Year 5 class liturgy was based on the story of when Jesus cured a man on the Sabbath day. Some of the church leaders didn’t like this and Jesus asked them: Is it best to do good than to do evil on the Sabbath day? They didn’t know what to say to that. We thought about how we can take every chance we have to do good rather than harm – by helping others even if it isn’t always convenient.
Year 3 prepared a whole school liturgy on Thursday about who inspired them. It did not matter if it was favourite sports players or family members. The scripture was also about how there is always time to change . We don’t have to stay the same way as we are – we can do things to try and improve the environment and ourselves by trying to do good things. We can encourage others as Saint Paul did and try to always be kind. We can try to only take what we need and share what we have.
Our school is trying for Gold Food for Life and combatting food waste is one of our biggest priorities.
