Mission: to pray for someone who needs healing

Today’s Act of Worship began with the choral version of the Prayer of St Francis. It teaches us to be at peace and to serve others.

Last Friday, our Year 1 children led us in an assembly about St Bernadette, which links nicely to this week’s word: healing.

We heard the story of St Bernadette seeing multiple visions of the Virgin Mary at a cave near Lourdes in France. She was instructed to dig nearby and a spring appeared. The water is said to have healing powers and millions of Catholics visit Lourdes to drink it and bathe in it.

During the time of his ministry, Jesus healed many people. We watched one incidence of this:

Many people need healing – not just physically, but mentally too. They may be feeling anxious, exhausted, scared, lost, alone or in despair.

Whilst there may not be anything we can do to heal others sometimes, we can always pray for them – and that is your mission this week: to pray for someone in need of healing.

As we heard in the video, God may not answer our prayers in the way that we would want him to, but he always does what he knows is best.

We ended with the song Ave Maria.

Let us know in the comments below how you achieve this week’s mission.

We decided to have 10 minutes within the classroom to pray to God. We chose to sit in silence and have our own thoughts to share with God. After our 10 minute reflection, we spoke out loud as a class about what we prayed for. Some of us prayed to help them be kind and considerate to those that are feeling down. Others prayed to ask God to guide those of us who are struggling with life at the moment and to let them know that hard moments will pass. Finally, we prayed for our family and friends who we all love dearly and hope that they go forward in life happy and healthy.

In Year 4 we had a time of prayer to pray for family and friends who need healing. We asked God to hold them in his arms and care for them as a father would. We prayed that he would provide comfort and strength to them and their families. We talked about that sometimEs God is unable to heal someone but he still provides love for them.
