Solidarity means to show sense of unity with a group of people. For example, as we approach Harvest, we are showing solidarity with those people in our community who do not have enough food by donating some to them.
We heard this scripture:

With our Harvest festival on Friday when you will be bringing in your donations, I want us to think about people across the world who do not have enough to eat for a variety of reasons.
There are people in East Africa who cannot grow enough food due to a lack of rain. Their cattle cannot survive as they do not have enough to drink. There are farmers in Bangladesh who have the opposite problem – too much rain – which has flooded their fields and ruined their crops.
There are people living in war zones who cannot get to food supplies and food supplies cannot get to them. This week, I want us to show solidarity with those people around the world who do not have enough to eat.

Let us know how you felt
This week’s mission is to pray for those who don’t have enough to eat. Please use the attached powerpoint to say a prayer before end of day prayers each day this week. Let us know how it feels to know that some people do not have enough to eat in the comments below.

In Year 2 we have included those in need in our end of day prayers. We have asked God to help us provide for them as Jesus would have done. We have also thanked God everyday in our lunchtime prayers for the food that he gives us and those that make our food. We talked about how lucky we are and how by praying God will know what it on our hearts and who to help.
Year 5 meditated on the word solidarity. We spoke about what it means and what it looks like in different scenarios. At home, at school, in class and when we are out and about in the community with our family and friends
In year 6 we spent time reflecting on the prayers each day and reminding ourselves how lucky we are to have food available to us. We want to help others who are not as fortunate as us by donating to food banks. We also said we would try to waste less food.
In Year 4, we discussed that it makes us sad that other people do not have what we have. We think the world should be a fair place and all food and necessities should be split fairly amongst all the world. We have said the prayers each day and kept in our minds those who are less fortunate than us.
Year 3 have discussed this week how it feels to know that other people don’t have enough food in this world. We discussed that we can give food to food banks to help those who are in need to show solidarity in our community.
The children in EYFS have prayed daily for those who are less fortunate than them. They said that learning about how the harvest helps people made them feel happy however learning about the poverty in the world made them feel sad because they didn’t have any food and they would have gone to bed with an empty tummy. They felt giving to charity was good because it helps people which is a good thing.
In Year One we talked about how we would pray for people who do not have enough to eat. We talked about families who need to use food banks or people who are homeless.
