This week we celebrated a whole school liturgy all about Diwali. The EYFS children have been doing lots of work in class about Diwali and we used the diva lamps that they had made in our liturgy and when the hall was dark the lights shone brightly showing us the beauty and comfort of the light. We also heard the story of Rama and Sita and how good conquered bad in the end and they were guided home by a string of lights. We looked at some photos of Leicester where there is a big Diwali celebration this week. The EYFS children then showed us the Indian sweets that they had made.
The Year 3/4 children reflected on how this links to Catholics living in the light of Christ which was a part of their RE learning this term.
The Mission from our liturgy was to share some scripture about light (which was given out on small strips of card) at playtime. The children really enjoyed finding someone with a piece of scripture and then thinking about how this can help us in our everyday life.
One of the Scripture readings was from the Psalms. Psalm 18: 28
28 You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
Harry- It was inspiring as it was talking about how God will turn our darkness into light and this links to our theme of light and reminds us that God can lead us back home to him. This links to the creation story of when God created our world from darkness and gave it light so that we could live.
Callum- I shared my scripture with 15 other children and it was touching because the words made me remember that without God we don’t have light in our lives.
Jack- It makes me feel really grateful to God.
